Although it was a very long time ago, I'm fairly certain Tom was my first little league (knothole) coach in St. Marys. I was probably around 7 years old, not a very good player, but with a good arm. Pretty sure his son, Andy, played on that team too. Anyhow, I just remember him as an exceptionally kind, patient, encouraging man who let me use what seemed to me to be a red wooden bat that was special to him. No matter how poorly I played in the field, Tom never let any frustration show. Always steady. Always kind. I think he had a hand in instilling a love for the game and as such I still play almost 45 years later, although it's softball for me now. I've gotten much better. :-) I may have lost touch with him and his family when they left town...but I never forgot him. If he was like that throughout his life, then I am certain he made his mark. Peace to his family.
