Mr. Sherman “Don” Belcher passed away March 10, 2018 at the age of 79 in Columbus at Our Hospice of Southern Indiana.
Don was born in Mitchell, Indiana on May 25, 1938 the son of the late Henry Sherman Belcher and Naomi Fry Belcher.
On December 2, 1956, he married Marilyn Atchison in Mitchell.
Don is survived by his wife Marilyn of 61 years; his children Dawn (Jared) Powell, David (Missi) Belcher, and Darrin (Heather) Belcher. Don was known as “Papaw” to Makinsie Rae (Jerry) Hickman, Aaron Michael, Conner Belcher and Cole Tanner Belcher; two great grandchildren Calvin Lee Hickman and Saylor Rae Hickman; two sisters Evalou Pate and Mary Davis; two brothers Daryl Belcher and Charles Belcher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Elmer “Bud” Belcher; sister Dorothy Marshall, and grandson Cody Blayze Garcia.
Don retired as the Director of Operations from Jay-C Food Stores/Kroger Company after 48 years of service and loved his work and customers at Jay-C. He so loved working in his yard, playing the guitar, and building furniture for his family. He especially enjoyed time with his grandchildren and yearly family reunions. Those who were close to Don knew he lived by the four P’s: Patience, Perseverance, Perspiration, Passion and carry the legacy of a great man with them.
Family and friends may visit at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday in Mitchell, Indiana at the Mitchell Cemetery.
The family request that memorials be designated to the Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, 2626 East 17th Street, Columbus, Indiana 47201, for the wonderful care provided for Don and the family, through the Voss & Sons Funeral Service.
