Marilyn June Glasson went to be with her Lord on July 19, 2021. Born in Jackson County, Indiana in 1932, she was the daughter of the late Glenn and Helen Kelley. She graduated from Seymour High School in 1951.
She was married to James “Jim” Glasson, the love of her life, on July 12, 1953. The couple began their married life with a cross country trip to Santa Ana, California, where Jim was finishing up his service in the United States Marine Corps.
When they returned to Jackson County, Marilyn worked for Cummins Engine Company and Jim worked for his father at the Texaco filling station in Reddington. Marilyn liked to joke that she made more money than he did.
In 1962, the couple started their own business, The Country Saddlery, selling western wear and equipment. The business will celebrate its 59th anniversary in October with daughter Julie Benter now holding the reins.
Marilyn was a member of Reddington Christian Church where she taught Sunday School for decades and was a member of the Missionary Society and the choir.
Marilyn loved to travel and after retiring she and Jim traveled to England and France, as well as many states in the U.S.
A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she is survived by her husband, James Glasson; her children, Julie Benter, and Joan McMahon (Douglas); grandchild Justin Benter (Andrea); great-granddaughter, Hadley Marie Benter; and sister, Doris Fox. She was predeceased by her parents and sister Joyce Montgomery.
Funeral services will be held at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Friday, July 23, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Scott Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Reddington Cemetery. Family and friends may call at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until time of service.
