Mr. Jerry L. “Finn” Findley, 74, of Seymour, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2017, at home. He was born on December 23, 1942, in Seymour, to the late Eugene “Snap” and Betty (Dietz) Findley. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. He was a graduate of Cortland High School, class of 1960. He served with the U.S. Army in Germany from 1966-1968. On December 21, 1969, he married Peggy Ude at Redeemer Lutheran Church, she survives. He was retired from Cummins and logging. He was an avid sports fan and cheered for the Cincinnati Reds, IU Basketball, and the Indianapolis Colts. He enjoyed watching his grandson’s basketball, baseball and football games and was good at giving coaching pointers. He watched and played the stock market, and was self taught at this endeavor. He was part of the Saturday morning breakfast club at Larrison’s Diner where he had a dish named after him, the “Finn”. He never met a stranger. He loved the country life. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was known for his famous fish fries.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Findley; children, Jodi (Sal) Mendez, Jr., Jacob (Stacy) Findley, and Jonathon (Angela) Findley; grandchildren, Palik Findley, Walter Findley, Nixie Findley, Mateo Mendez, Macario Mendez and Marquez Mendez.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and grandsons, Luke Findley, Marcello Mendez and Manuel Mendez.
Funeral services will be conducted by Voss & Sons Funeral Service at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Saturday, October 28, at 11 am with Revs. Andrew Currao and Joseph Barlau officiating. Burial will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour.
Family and friends may call at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Friday from 3-8 pm and on Saturday at the church from 10 am until time of service.
Memorials may be written to Redeemer Lutheran Church or Schneck Hospice, in care of Voss & Sons Funeral Service.
