Mrs. Helen Ernest, age 99, of Seymour, passed away on January 4, 2021 at Lutheran Community Home.
She was born in Varna Bulgaria in 1921 to Naum and Maria (Phillipov) Andreoff. She came to the United States in 1936 to visit relatives and could not return to Bulgaria due to events during and after WWII. She met her future husband, Don Ernest, while working in Chicago at the same business and they married on November 4, 1950, in Seymour. Mr. Ernest was a former mayor of the City of Seymour. She was especially proud of obtaining US citizenship in 1957.
Helen was a member of Seymour First Presbyterian Church where she was an Elder and Deacon. She was also a member of the Seymour Garden Club, Tri Kappa, and The Elks Lodge #462 in Seymour. She loved flower gardening, flower arranging and visits from her grandchildren and volunteering at the church.
She is survived by her children, Donald Ernest, Marilyn (John) Reckel, Edward (Jill) Ernest, George (Dereva) Ernest, and James (fianc� Tonya) Ernest. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Amanda (Mark), Nathan, Carmen (Joe), Caleb (fianc� Adrianna), Jennifer (Chadd), Karen (Steve), Angie (Chris), and 12 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and siblings.
Private funeral services will be conducted at Voss Chapel on Friday, January 8, at 2:00 PM with Rev. Scott Hookey officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
The family appreciates all the prayers and concern for them in this time of loss. Helen will be missed by many friends in the community, but all services are private for the safety of the family and friends. Cards and notes of condolence will be most welcome.
