Carolyna Ivy, age 78, of Seymour, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2018.
She was born December 3, 1939, in Saluda Township, Jennings County, to Catherine Leola (Newman) and Arbie John Knootz.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 6:00 PM at Voss & Sons Funeral Service with Rev. John Armstrong officiating. A flag presentation will follow the service to honor Carolyna’s years of service and dedication to our country. Burial will be at a later date at Hillcrest Cemetery in North Vernon with full military graveside rites.
Friends may call on Thursday after 4 PM until the time of the memorial service.
Carolyna graduated from Shields High School in 1957 and from business school in 1959. She also took classes and obtained her cosmetology and brokers licenses. She worked for several years at Thompson Dairy, the Job Corp at Atterbury for two years, and in 1974 she joined the Army Reserve (CASP) where she served for 26 years. She enjoyed traveling and volunteered in Germany and Italy during Desert Storm. She took a mission trip to Israel in 1992.
She owned and managed her own apartment complex for over 20 years. She enjoyed her flower garden and she ran several marathons over 11 years. She was always very competitive and at the top of her PT challenges. She was an excellent seamstress and she was a great writer.
Carolyna is survived by her daughters, Sherri (Roger) Cheek, and Stephanie Ulrey (Todd Prewitt), and 4 grandchildren, Shawn (Monique) Neal, Shannon Nicholas (Jimmy Humphrey), Collin (Alexa) Ulrey, and Jalen (Taylor) Ulrey, two brothers, Dana (Judy) Knootz, and Timothy Michael Knootz, two aunts, Mae and Blonde, and 7 great grandchildren, Mikel and Brennan Neal, Jasmin and Landon Jackson, Shyanda Vessel, and Brennan and Avery Ulrey.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
We feel great sadness that she is gone but her brave battle with cancer is over and she has her victory in Jesus.
