Mary Alice Neal, born September 21, 1928, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family and minister in prayer on Saturday February 6, 2010 at 5:45 pm. She was the daughter of Ira and Minnie (Holton) Hornback.
Known for her pioneer spirit she was the first female letter carrier for the Columbus postal system, and the first female route person at Arab pest control. She was known for her great sense of humor, and unmatched wit. She kept you laughing and guessing never knowing what was next. Her "can do" attitude and spirit was highly contagious and will be sorely missed.
She was preceded in death by Cecil Denney whom she married on October 7, 1945 and Raymond F Neal whom she married on March 8, 1968. She had a rather large family and her brothers Arthur, Ralph, Charles, Harold and her sisters Edith and Mable also preceded her in death. She is survived by one sister: Nellie Jones of Columbus.
Leaving her legacy behind were her most prized possessions in life, her children, Brenda Casey, Debbie Michaels, Nancy (Larry) Elliott, Karen (David) Hoene, Paul Neal and Cathy Goble. Second to none were her 21 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and 9 great great grandchildren.
Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents and son-in-law, Charles Casey.
Her "never quit" attitude and ability to see the great humor in life and to live life to its fullest is why all memorials are to be written to Hospice of South Central Indiana and Donor's Choice.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, February 11 at 1:00 at Voss Chapel, Seymour with Reverend Andrew Curraro officiating.
Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery.
Friends may call on Thursday from 11:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home.
