Mr. Lawrence Randall Guffey, 74, of Seymour, passed away at 5:15 PM, Sunday, November 22nd, 2009 at The Waters of Seymour after an extended illness,
Mr. Guffey was born in Monticello KY, on March 20, 1935. He lived in the Jackson County area since age 3, attending schools in Freetown and Seymour. He graduated from Shields High School, and attended IUPUI. He worked in the mechanical engineering field for 28 years at Reliance Electric in Columbus, and was resident engineer for Sparton, IN for 8 years; and in maintenance for Central Pharmaceuticals for 6 years before retiring.
Mr. Guffey was an auto enthusiast from an early age. He especially enjoyed restoring 30's era cars. He was a founding member of the original Seymour Time Turners Car Club, and also belonged to the Southern Indiana Street Rods. His other passion was spending time with extended family at the cabin he built near Patoka Lake.
His parents are the late Wesley Guffey and Emma Guffey, who survives, of Seymour. He was married to Sonja K. Hobson on July 31, 1971. He has four children, Kimberly (Jerry) Earl, Joe Guffey, Jerry (Mary) Guffey and Jon (Heather) Guffey. He has two grandchildren, his namesake Jacob Lawrence Guffey and newborn Saviere KayAnn Guffey; step grandchildren, Josiah Rigsby, Jason Earl, Justin (Lauren) Earl and little Jackson Earl.
He was preceded in death by his father and an infant son.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Voss Chapel on Wednesday, November 25 at 6:00 PM with visitation from 3:00 PM until time of service. Rev. Mike Isaacs will officiate.
Memorials may be written to Hoosier Christian Village, Ratcliff Grove Christian Church, or Donor's Choice.
