Mr. John Charles "Jack" Prewitt, Sr., 84, of Danville, formerly of Seymour, passed away at 5:30 AM, Friday, October 16th, 2009 at his residence with his family by his side. He had been in failing health for 3 1/2 years.
Jack was born in Seymour, IN on October 13, 1925, the son of James Guy and Mary (Auphenberg) Prewitt.
On December 6, 1947 he married Henrietta "Judy" Emily, who survives.
Jack was a member of Cloverleaf Baptist Church, Indianapolis. He graduated from Shields High School, Seymour. He retired from Allisons in Indianapolis in 1990 after 37 years of service, where he was a tool and die purchaser. Jack served as a Corpsman in the US Navy during World War II.
Besides his wife, Jack is survived by his children, Marsha Sparks, John (Sherry) Prewitt, Jr., Terry Prewitt, James (Melissa) Prewitt; 18 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; brother, Tony Prewitt; and sister, Jean Shelton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Vivian Kay Jones and infant daughter, Brenda Sue Prewitt; 5 brothers; and 1 sister.
Funeral Services will be held at Voss Chapel, Monday, October 19, at 12:00 noon with the Rev. John Barker officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 AM until time of service at Voss Chapel.
Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery, Seymour, with full military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour. There will be a Voss Dove release.
Memorials may be written to the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews.
